LogTap 3.0: your console, minus the noise.

A Manifest V3 rewrite of the DevTools log inspector, with plain-language search, anomaly detection, and a timeline view.

I shipped LogTap 3.0 back in January. Never wrote it up. Fixing that now.

LogTap is a browser extension for the DevTools panel you already have open. It captures your console output and turns it into something you can actually search, instead of a scroll you Ctrl+F and hope.

The browser console forgets everything on reload and only matches exact strings. LogTap persists logs to IndexedDB across reloads, and you can search them in plain language: "show auth errors from last hour" or "network requests today" instead of remembering the string you logged. It groups repeated messages, learns your app's normal noise level and flags what breaks the pattern, and snapshots objects at the moment they were logged so you're not staring at a mutated reference.

Everything stays local. No analytics, no telemetry, no external servers. Your logs never leave your machine.

3.0 is a full rewrite to Manifest V3. Semantic search, anomaly detection, a timeline view with error markers, session diffing, multi-format export (plain text, Markdown, JSON, CSV), built-in anonymization for anything you do share, and clickable file links that open straight in VS Code, Cursor, or WebStorm.

LogTap isn't on the Chrome Web Store yet. Right now it's a GitHub Release: download logtap-3.0.0.zip from github.com/greatnessinabox/logtap/releases/tag/v3.0.0, unzip it, open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode, Load unpacked, pick the folder, then find the LogTap panel in DevTools.

It's MIT. Source is at github.com/greatnessinabox/logtap.
