I write software the way some people write ghost stories. Patient. A little obsessive. With the lights low. Eighteen years of production code. I lead frontend architecture at TED.com and freelance under marquis.codes for a small list of clients each year. I'm booking selectively for 2026.
Experience
TED
Oct 2024 → PresentSoftware Architect · Senior Frontend Engineer, May 2022 → Oct 2024
I lead frontend architecture on ted.com. A custom Next.js platform serving millions of readers a month. Day to day: product features, performance, refactors that ship without breaking production, partnering with design, product, and backend, pushing the team's engineering standards forward.
Selected shipped work. Led the team that traced and recovered a sharp drop in ad revenue. Built saved talks and personal playlists end to end, released behind a flag. Moved the services behind the site to a new architecture one piece at a time, with no maintenance window. Rebuilt the team's release-deploy tooling. Shipped a critical security migration the morning a frontend library hit a CVE. Server-rendered the talks pages so Google sees the right preview image before any JavaScript loads. Recovered a production outage the next morning with a single deploy fix.

Nov 2016 → PresentFreelance Frontend Architect
Premium frontend architecture for a small list of clients each year. Focus areas: Next.js and React apps that need senior judgment, complex refactors, performance audits, headless commerce on Shopify, AI dev tooling integration, and multi-tenant SaaS work.
Recent runs. Triple Seven Home (custom lighting brand in Melbourne, Florida, selling from a Shopify storefront its team merchandises itself). Triply (headless Shopify with a content layer the brand team runs themselves). FITGALAXIE (private cloud platform for shoe-fit analysis). Anotherland (records, studios, AMXN R@dio). Magic With My Minis (Disney travel agency on Next.js).
